Rightsizing in Hervey Bay: Interior styling tips for Liven Beach Road
Moving into Liven Beach Road is more than a change of address, it’s the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Our resort-style over 50s community in the heart of Hervey Bay offers ease, connection and the freedom to live exactly how you want to live.
To help guide this transition, we sat down with Amanda from local Hervey Bay interior design duo, StyleIt. As a mother-and-daughter team passionate about creating beautiful, functional homes across the Fraser Coast, they understand both the emotion and opportunity that comes with rightsizing.
At Liven Beach Road, we’re proud to collaborate with local businesses who enrich the experience for our residents. From sharing styling advice at our exclusive community coffee mornings to creating a seasonal colour bookmark designed specifically to complement our homes and architecture, StyleIt are helping residents feel confident, inspired and truly at home from day one.
Read on for their expert insights into styling your next chapter with clarity and confidence.

Moving into an over 50s community can be a big and exciting transition. From your experience, what emotions do people most often feel when they’re preparing to style their new home and how do you help them navigate that?
It’s almost always a mix of excitement and uncertainty. There’s genuine anticipation about a fresh chapter, but also emotion tied to leaving a long-held family home.
Many people worry about “getting it right” or fear the new space won’t feel like them. My role in Estate Design planning is to slow the process down and reframe it as a positive evolution rather than a loss. We focus on what they’re gaining, ease, location and the Liven resort-style lifestyle, the new home’s colours and architecture and the opportunity to curate a home that truly supports how they live now. Styling becomes a gentle, guided process rather than an overwhelming one.
Many people worry that rightsizing means sacrificing style or comfort. What’s your biggest piece of advice for creating a home that still feels generous, personal and welcoming?
Rightsizing or downsizing is not about having less – it’s about being more intentional. The key is choosing fewer, better pieces that are scaled correctly and do real work in the space. When every item has purpose, the home feels calmer, more generous and more considered. Comfort comes from flow, lighting, texture and proportion-not square metres.
When someone is moving into a new home, how do you suggest deciding which existing furniture or décor pieces are worth bringing with them and which might be better left behind?
I always suggest asking two questions: Does this piece suit the scale of the new home? and does it still reflect who you are now?
Sentimental value matters, but not everything needs to make the move. Often, we keep one or two meaningful pieces of furniture and allow the rest of the home to breathe. Letting go can feel emotional, but it also creates space – physically and mentally – for what’s next.
What are some simple styling techniques that instantly help a new home feel settled and personal, without needing a full redesign or big spend?
Layering is everything. Soft furnishings, artwork at the right height, warm lighting in winter and cool for summer and personal objects styled with intention make a space feel lived-in very quickly.
Even something as simple as thoughtful bedside styling or a well-balanced console vignette can completely shift how a home feels – without changing the bones at all.
Colour can feel daunting when you’re starting fresh. How do you recommend residents approach colour in a way that feels confident but not overwhelming?
Start neutral and build slowly. Think of colour as an accent, not a commitment. Introduce it through cushions, throws, artwork or ceramics rather than large, fixed elements. This keeps things flexible and allows confidence to build over time. When colour is layered thoughtfully, it feels intentional rather than intimidating.
There’s a misconception that good interior design must be expensive. What are some of your favourite budget-friendly ways to refresh a space while still achieving a polished, considered look?
Editing is free and incredibly powerful. Removing visual clutter instantly elevates a space.
Beyond that, upgrading lighting (warm bulbs in winter and cool white in summer), updating cushions, refreshing artwork placement, or adding texture through throws and rugs can make a home feel entirely new. It’s rarely about buying more – it’s about styling better.
When styling a home in a resort-style community like Liven Beach Road, what lifestyle considerations do you take into account beyond how a space looks?
Lifestyle always leads to design. We consider how residents move through the home, how they entertain, where they relax, and how much maintenance they want long-term.
Furniture needs to be comfortable, durable and easy to live with. Storage must be practical. The home should feel like a retreat and not a showroom.
For someone moving into an over 50s community and starting a new chapter, what’s one styling mindset shift you’d recommend?
Your home should support your lifestyle now, not reflect who you used to be. When people embrace that shift, styling becomes empowering rather than emotional.
Can you tell us about the styling services you offer for our residents and how they work?
StyleIt offers a personalised styling service that focuses on the finishing layers of a home – the elements that bring warmth, cohesion and a sense of ease. For residents, there are three tailored options depending on how much support they’d like.
The Final Few Pieces service is ideal when the home is mostly complete but needs those last touches – décor, lighting, artwork or styling – to feel polished and welcoming.
The REVIEW Package takes a step back and looks at the home as a whole. It’s about understanding how you want to live in your new space, identifying your non-negotiable pieces and designing the plan around them. We clarify what stays, what goes, and how to make the layout and styling work beautifully for your lifestyle.
The Fresh Start Full Design Package is perfect for anyone wanting a full design direction from the beginning – furniture selections, colour palette, layout, and finishing layers – creating a cohesive, considered home from day one.
Each service is relaxed, practical and tailored to the individual, helping residents settle in with confidence and enjoy a home that truly reflects how they want to live.
